HOW TO MAKE TRANSPARENT ALATA SOAP


Alata Samina as it is known to many Ghanaians is becoming the most popular soap for bathing in Ghana. It has been named Alata Samina because of the use of potassium hydroxide which is also found in cocopod ash used to make the traditional Alata Samina. INGREDIENTS

The following are the ingredients that, we used in preparing the Transparent Alata Samina. However, there are other ingredients that you can add to make your Alata Samina very rich for your skin.

1.      Potassium Hydroxide (Potash)           200 grams

2.      Glycerin                                              50 ml

3.      Coconut Oil                                        400 ml

4.      Fragrance                                            20 ml

 


PROCESS

1.      Mix your potash and glycerin in water. Stir for it to become very clear and set it aside.

2.      Put your saucepan on fire and add your coconut oil and small amount of water to it. Allow it to boil.

3.      Add your potash lye or solution to the oil on fire when it starts to boil. Add it slowly to avoid eruption.

4.      Stir quickly but gently to get a gel from the mixture.

5.      When you get the gel, add your fragrance to it.

6.      Pour into your containers.

7.      You are done!

CAUTION!

Potassium Hydroxide solution is extremely caustic. It causes burns if splashed on the skin and can cause blindness if splashed into the eye. If drunk, they can be fatal. Because of these dangers, keep small children away from the processing room while soap is being made.
